Vetnosis publishes Pfizer-Fort Dodge Portfolio Conflict Analysis

Edinburgh, UK - 19th February 2009 - Vetnosis publishes Pfizer-Fort Dodge Portfolio Conflict Analysis

Vetnosis has published the findings of its independent analysis of conflicts within the Pfizer and Fort Dodge portfolios in a new multi-client study.

On 26 January Pfizer and Wyeth announced that they had entered into a definitive merger agreement under which Pfizer will acquire Wyeth in a cash and stock transaction worth $68 billion.  This transaction combines Pfizer Animal Health and Fort Dodge Animal Health to create the largest animal health company with sales of £3.9 billion and about 20% market share.

However, the large portfolios of Pfizer and Fort Dodge may present some regulatory and commercial challenges due to portfolio conflicts in a number of key categories.  These challenges for Pfizer and Fort Dodge present opportunities for other animal health companies looking to add strong brands to their own portfolios.

This multi-client study delivers a detailed qualitative Portfolio Conflict Analysis for Pfizer and Fort Dodge in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and USA.  We have drawn upon regulators own reports on previous transactions to guide our market segmentation and portfolio conflict analysis.

The deliverable includes a 71 page written report and a fully searchable Excel dataset that identifies Portfolio Conflicts in each of these markets at a product level.  "Vetnosis has been able to undertake this detailed portfolio conflict analysis extremely efficiently by using its veterinary Portfolio Analysis Tool (vPAT-Online).  This  proprietary, fully-searchable electronic database of licensed medicines marketed by every animal health company in the leading animal health markets has proven to be invaluable in its ability to analyse portfolios at the most granular level" said Tim Evans, Managing Director of Vetnosis.

Adding to this, Julie van den Driesche, Senior Analyst remarked, "Historically, analysing vaccine portfolio conflicts was very time consuming, however, vPAT-Online, allows us to search and identify vaccines with the same species and antigen valency with only a few clicks making vaccine analysis simple, accurate and fast."
